Born in 1952 in Ringold County Hospital, Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Mary Kay Lambert was born to Jeanette Anna Miller, and Ralph Waldo Lambert and has one brother, Galen, or "Joker" as he was called through out his life. Mary Kay grew up observing and learning entrepreneurial - spirited business strategies since before she could walk; Mary Kay's parents owned the only local grocery store and café in Allendale, Missouri. To this day, Mary Kay resides in Allendale Village, population 42 according to the sign as you enter the small storybook town. Mary Kay's mom was the head chef, waited tables, and was a highly skilled hand-quilter while her dad primarily ran the grocery store.
As Mary Kay and her husband, Keith, Korean War Vetern, started their family, Mary Kay recalls a key, and memorable conversation with her mom about the challenges of being an engaged parent as well as pursuing her professional dreams. With her mom's encouragement and vote of confidence in her back pocket, Mary Kay purchased her first Juki sewing machine and started Kay's Quilting in 1987. Mary Kay and Keith have three sons, 10 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. As Mary Kay reflects on her journey over the years and the passing of her mother in 1989, the friendship and inspiration Mary Kay gained from Jeanette Anna Miller is palpable.
In 1990 Mary Kay and Keith began a new chapter in their business as they embarked upon a 25-year vendor relationship with Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri selling quilts, quilt-related crafts, and hand made homegoods until they retired in 2015. Over the years, Mary Kay has completely transitioned to using a Gammill machine and quilts almost every day of her life selling on average, 300+ quilts a year. During the Grand Opening of the Monarch Shoppe, Mary Kay shared that she's quilted over 12,350 quilts and has documented every last one. The years of experience Mary Kay contributes to the foundation and knowledge base of the Kate Shu Collective, the Monarch Shoppe, and the wonderful world of Art is invaluable.
Kay's Quilting and Mary Kay's Monarch Shoppe is dedicated to her beloved Mother who taught her to sew and inspired her to achieve greatness both personally and professionally. Her strong commitment to helping other Artists and creative entrepreneurs discover "living a life they LOVE" is precious and a tremendous American story to be celebrated and shared with the world. The quilt featured in the above photo was made by Mary Kay's mom when she was in the 8th grade!!
Mary Kay became a member of the Kate Shu Collective in August of 2025 and launched her first product line - Quilted: One Stitch at a Time, in November of 2025 at the Monarch Shoppe. Mary Kay's Coillection consists of apparel for all ages and sizes, journal notebooks and greeting cards, coffee mugs and water bottles, and other specialty gift items.
Welcome to the studio of the supremely talented Mary Kay Lambert. Mary Kay is one of five Monarch Shoppe STAR Resident Artists and a valuable member of the Creative Collective. We're so happy you're here.
